Jeff Bezos’ AI lab raises $10b at $38b valuation
Project Prometheus, an AI lab led by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former Google executive Vik Bajaj, has closed a US$10 billion funding round at about a US$38 billion valuation.
JPMorgan Chase and BlackRock are among the investors.
The startup, which is building models and tools for engineering and manufacturing, has focused on private equity firms and sovereign wealth funds rather than traditional Silicon Valley investors.
It has held talks with funds in the Middle East and Singapore.
Project Prometheus is also exploring a holding company that could buy manufacturing-related businesses and hold them long term.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Prometheus’s strategy goes past software into acquisitions and “physical AI”
- The holding company is part of a plan to raise a separate US$100 billion fund. The aim is to buy manufacturing firms and speed automation in chipmaking, defense, and aerospace with AI 1.
- That fund would sit near SoftBank’s Vision Fund in size, the technology investment pool backed by Japan’s SoftBank Group 1.
- Prometheus is not focused on conventional large language models. It is building systems that map the real world and grasp design and engineering, aiming to simulate real engineering settings 2.
- To move faster, Prometheus bought General Agents, the startup behind Ace. Ace can search the web and act for users. It runs on a video-language-action model architecture. That AI setup reads video plus language plus actions together for robotics and other physical-world uses 1.
Bezos’s playbook fits rising investor interest in industrial AI
- The move sits within a wider race for industrial AI as investors and operators line up around AI-led manufacturing 1.
- Pairing an AI lab with an acquisition vehicle pushes AI development closer to owning industrial businesses slated for AI-based automation 2.
- The approach also echoes a familiar billionaire pattern. After building wealth through one dominant company, many branch into new ventures and investments. Still, the claim that “the next step is now to acquire and transform entire industrial sectors” goes beyond what the cited source says 3.
