JD.com accelerates embodied AI push with new partnerships
Chinese ecommerce giant JD.com is increasing its focus on embodied AI through its JoyInside brand. The brand has striking partnerships with over 10 robotics companies to enhance interaction capabilities between robots and users using JD.com’s LLM technology.
JoyInside has been integrated into various robotics applications, including home companionship, early childhood education, and enterprise use. As part of its expansion, JoyInside’s capabilities will be featured in a new AI toy brand expected to launch exclusively on JD.com.
During the JD.com 618 shopping festival this year, sales of smart robots on the platform reportedly increased by 300% compared to last year. Embodied AI robot sales rose by 1,600%.
JD’s strategic timeline in embodied AI has been aggressive. The company reportedly established a dedicated embodied AI department in March. In May, JD made its first investment in an embodied AI firm, participating in the series B+ funding round of Zhiyuan Robotics.
