JD.com reports record orders during 618 shopping festival
Beijing-based JD.com, one of China’s largest ecommerce platforms, said its 618 shopping festival ended on June 18 with a record number of users placing orders.
New product launches from major brands rose more than 500% year on year, while the number of new small and medium-sized merchants taking part increased by more than 62%.
Transaction volume for AI-powered consumer electronics increased 100%. Footfall at JD Mall rose 22%, order volume there increased 32%, and the number of products sold through its cross-border import business, Jingdong Cross-border, rose 60%.
The June 18 shopping festival, which takes its name from JD.com’s founding date, is China’s second-largest annual ecommerce event after Singles Day and is widely watched as a gauge of consumer demand.
JD.com did not provide an overall gross merchandise value figure for the event and instead highlighted user and transaction metrics. That aligns with a broader industry shift as major platforms have stopped disclosing headline GMV.
The update comes as China’s retail sales fell 0.6% in May 2026, while government subsidy and trade-in programs are boosting purchases of electronics and home appliances.
