1️⃣ Corporate finance evolution: the rise of Bitcoin treasury companies

Metaplanet exemplifies a significant shift in corporate strategy, having completely pivoted from hotel management to becoming a dedicated Bitcoin treasury firm last year.

The company now ranks as the world’s fifth-largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holder with 16,352 BTC worth $1.64 billion, illustrating how quickly dedicated Bitcoin accumulation strategies can scale 1.

This transformation reflects a broader trend, with the total number of companies holding Bitcoin reaching 250 as of July 2025, including 26 companies that began holding Bitcoin just in June 2025 1.

Companies are increasingly viewing Bitcoin as more than a speculative investment. It’s becoming a strategic asset for hedging against inflation, currency devaluation, and macroeconomic shocks due to its fixed supply of 21 million coins and growing liquidity 1.

Strategy, the leading corporate Bitcoin holder with 597,325 BTC (approximately $65 billion), now boasts the 11th largest corporate treasury in the U.S., demonstrating how significant Bitcoin holdings have become in corporate finance 2.
