Japan’s Metaplanet buys 135 bitcoins for $12.9m

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has acquired an additional 135 bitcoins for approximately US$12.9 million, as announced on Feb.25.

This purchase, made at an average price of US$95,951 per bitcoin, raises the firm’s total bitcoin holdings to 2,235 BTC.

Metaplanet has increased its bitcoin reserves from 1,761 BTC at the end of 2024 and 141 BTC as of June 2024.

The firm established its bitcoin treasury operations as a core business line in Dec. 2024. It aims to hold 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by 2026.
