Japanese startup Donut Robotics to get $1.9m investment

Charm Care Corporation, a Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed operator of more than 100 private nursing homes in Japan, will invest 300 million yen (US$1.9 million) in Tokyo-based humanoid robot startup Donut Robotics.

The company said the investment will be made by subscribing to common shares under a capital and business alliance.

The companies have been testing Donut Robotics’ humanoid robot cinnamon at a Charm Care facility since July 2026. The next product step is nurse-call support, and cinnamon 2 is due this fall, the company said.

Donut Robotics aims to assist care staff in eldercare facilities. The deal comes as robots are being used to address staffing shortages in Japan’s eldercare sector.
