Japanese chipmaker Renesas completes Pictorus acquisition
Renesas Electronics, a Japan-based semiconductor supplier, said on June 18 that a subsidiary had completed its acquisition of Oakland, California-based software developer Pictorus.
The deal adds cloud-based behavioural modeling technology to its Renesas 365 electronics development platform.
Pictorus lets engineers design system behavior in a web browser and generate executable embedded software from block diagrams in Rust, with C/C++ and Python interoperability.
Renesas said the technology targets automotive, robotics, and industrial equipment applications. Terms were not disclosed.
Renesas 365 was introduced on March 11, 2026, as a cloud-based, model-based platform for device exploration, system development, and lifecycle management.
The platform is part of Renesas’s digitalisation strategy.
It uses Altium’s cloud technology to unify workflows across hardware, software, and printed circuit board design.
