Japanese chipmaker Kioxia appoints new CEO

Kioxia Holdings Corp., a Japanese flash memory manufacturer, announced that Hiroo Oota will become CEO and president, pending shareholder approval at the June annual meeting.

Oota, 63, has a long history in the semiconductor industry, having joined Toshiba in 1985 and previously held engineering roles at Toshiba Memory, now known as Kioxia.

The leadership change coincides with the company’s one-year anniversary of its IPO and aims to support expansion efforts amid rising demand for memory chips, partly driven by AI growth.

Nobuo Hayasaka, the outgoing CEO, will become a senior executive adviser.

The company said the leadership transition was deemed appropriate by the board to accelerate growth in a competitive market.
