Japan tops in-depth AI awareness globally: survey
Japan has the highest rate of in-depth AI awareness globally, with 53% of respondents saying they have heard or read a substantial amount about the technology, according to a Pew Research Center survey.
France and Germany followed closely at 52% and 51%, while the global median was 34%.
For overall awareness, including those who have heard or read “a lot” or “a little” about AI, Australia led at 97%, Japan reached 89%, and India ranked lowest at 45%.
In Japan, 55% reported feeling equally concerned and excited about AI in daily life, while 28% were more concerned than excited.
By comparison, 50% of US respondents were more concerned than excited, and 38% were equally concerned and excited.
The survey also found that wealthier countries, men, young adults, and those with higher education reported higher AI awareness.
Public trust in AI regulation varied: in Japan, 43% trusted the EU, 41% trusted the US, and 7% trusted China.
