Authorities emphasized the threats posed by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the international financial system and the private sector.
The joint statement indicated that advanced persistent threat groups associated with North Korea, particularly the Lazarus Group, are involved in cryptocurrency-related cybercrime.
The three governments reported significant thefts in 2024, including US$308 million from DMM Bitcoin, US$50 million from Upbit, and US$16.13 million from Rain Management.
In addition, thefts in 2023 amounted to US$235 million from WazirX and US$50 million from Radiant Capital.
The three countries reaffirmed their commitment to disrupt North Korea’s cybercrime activities and prevent illicit revenue generation through sanctions, enhanced regional cybersecurity, and strengthened trilateral coordination.
