Jack Ma urges creativity in China’s AI-era education
Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, emphasized the need for China’s rural education to focus on fostering curiosity and creativity in the AI era during a video call with rural teachers.
Ma said education should shift away from rote memorization and repetitive problem-solving to encourage students to ask diverse, meaningful questions.
He highlighted that the main challenge is not technological but related to cultivating imagination, judgment, and collaboration.
Ma also noted that the education system should aim to develop students’ questioning abilities rather than simply producing correct answers.
His comments follow concerns from rural teachers about falling behind in AI literacy, and he reiterated the importance of nurturing curiosity as a form of “computing power.”
Ma’s remarks are part of ongoing efforts by the Jack Ma Foundation’s Rural Teachers Initiative, which supports rural educators with funding and training.
