Israel’s Quantum Machines acquires QHarbor, opens Delft R&D
Quantum Machines is expanding in Europe by acquiring QHarbor from TU Delft.
It will also open an R&D office in Delft, the Netherlands, to support software development and local partnerships.
Quantum Machines is an Israel-based company that builds hardware and software for real-time control of quantum processors.
The new site in Hubbz Delft will start with the QHarbor team and work with local groups including House of Quantum.
Founded in 2018, the company says it has about 300 employees and offices in Israel, the US, Germany, France, Denmark, Japan, and Singapore.

Quantum Machines’ Delft move adds scarce talent in a leading European hub
- The move centers on adding scarce engineering talent and specialized know-how for building quantum computing systems and software 1.
- QHarbor is a spin-off from TU Delft, a Dutch technical university, and came out of QuTech, a quantum research institute in the Netherlands. It builds software for quantum experimentation, including software-defined experimentation, data management, and system-level integration 2, 1, 3.
- That work fits Quantum Machines’ Orchestration Platform, which handles real-time hybrid quantum-classical control across superconducting, neutral atom, trapped ion, and spin-based hardware 2.
- Delft’s quantum scene is growing fast. Startup and scale-up headcount was nearing 400 by end-2024, up nearly 50% from end-2023, while funding in 2024 was more than double the prior year 4.
A new picks and shovels playbook takes shape in quantum computing
- The deal adds software and orchestration depth to ongoing hardware work, rather than focusing only on higher qubit counts 1.
- Quantum Machines offers a hardware-agnostic control layer, meaning software that works across different kinds of quantum hardware. That role can make it a supplier across the stack, much like abstraction and control layers in earlier computing eras 1.
- The company raised US$170 million in a series C round. It also says more than half of the companies working on quantum computing use its technology 5, 6.
