Israel’s femtech Escala Medical raises $4.5m
Israel-based femtech, Escala Medical, has raised US$4.5 million in a Series A funding round, increasing its total funding to over $8 million.
The round was co-financed by the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund along with private investors from the United States and Israel.
The EIC Fund’s investment follows a €2.5 million grant awarded to Escala in October 2023 through its Accelerator program. Other supporters of the company include The Trendlines Group and the UK-based Consensus Business Group.
Escala was founded in 2014 by pelvic surgeons Dr. Roger Goldberg and Professor Douglas Scherr. The company develops minimally invasive treatment options for Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP).
Its flagship product, Mendit, is a minimally invasive device designed as an alternative to traditional surgery and received FDA clearance in April 2023.
The device was commercially launched later that year and is currently approved in 48 U.S. hospitals, with additional facilities in advanced stages of approval.
The new funding will support Escala’s commercial expansion in the U.S., entry into European (pending CE approval) and Southeast Asian markets, and further product development.
CE mark approval for Mendit is expected in 2026, and the company has signed a distribution agreement with a Singapore-based partner for the Southeast Asian market.
