Israeli tech companies keep hiring talent despite war

Israeli high-tech companies are continuing to recruit hundreds of engineers and AI specialists despite the war with Iran, with candidates and employers adapting recruitment amid frequent air-raid alarms.

After an initial pause, candidates resumed applying and firms report rescheduling interrupted coding tests and handling last-minute cancellations with flexibility, Nufar Zioni, HRBP at fintech april, and Gal Tanchelson, senior vice president of HR at Orca Security, said.

Demand remains focused on AI, cyber, and data roles, said Chaim Geron, co-CEO and founder of Infinity Labs R&D, an Israeli research firm, who named AI researchers, GenAI developers, cyber researchers, and data engineers as priorities.

Global tech employers such as Nvidia Israel and Microsoft Israel Research and Development say they are maintaining recruitment in Israel, with Nvidia Israel offering roughly 400 open positions in research, engineering, and product roles, and Microsoft Israel R&D recruiting about 100 employees; Microsoft said it is onboarding new hires remotely.

Local semiconductor equipment maker UCT Israel is recruiting about 200 staff in the north and Elad Systems is hiring roughly 200 people for data, CRM, and digital roles, Dr. Yehuda Salhov of UCT Israel and Dagan Halevy of Elad Systems said.

Executives and industry figures say the conflict has raised demand for cyber specialists and prompted wider use of AI tools to support business continuity and faster decision-making.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Hiring continues despite rising physical and financial risk

  • Israeli and global tech employers are recruiting in Israel while dealing with direct military danger.
  • Iran has threatened to target “economic centers and banks tied to the US and Israel.” An IRGC-affiliated news agency has also published lists of offices and infrastructure owned by U.S. tech companies, including Nvidia and Microsoft, as potential targets. IRGC refers to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a powerful military and security organization 1.
  • Iranian drone strikes have already damaged Amazon Web Services (AWS, Amazon’s cloud computing division) facilities in the UAE and in close proximity to a facility in Bahrain. AWS said the attacks disrupted power delivery and caused damage, including fire- and water-related damage 2.
  • Companies also face financial exposure because standard insurance policies often exclude damage or losses from war, invasion, or military action. Repair bills could reach the millions 1.

Recruiting fits a longer geopolitical shift

  • Nvidia’s recruiting supports a longer expansion in Israel. The company plans a new R&D (research and development) campus with work due to start in 2027 3.
  • The plan increases reliance on Israel as an R&D hub outside the U.S. It hinges on the country’s talent pool despite the instability 3.
  • Across the tech industry, concentrating specialized talent in geopolitically complex regions can create a high-stakes dependency 4.
  • A severe disruption could hit local teams and global supply chains for critical materials. It could also slow development of next-generation AI 5.
