Implications, context, and why it matters.
Mega-deals in cybersecurity are driving Israel’s tech funding recovery
- The rebound rests on a small number of outsized rounds.
- In H1 2024, mega-rounds above $100 million made up 56% of all private funding, the highest share since H2 2021 1.
- Cybersecurity pulled in 52% of private funding in H1 2024, up from about 25% in 2023 and about 20% in 2018 1.
- Regional instability continued, yet overseas investors increased activity. Global participation hit a seven-year high in H1 2024, tied to rounds that represented 93% of all funding 1.
AI’s next phase is less about tech and more about people
- Wonderful raised $150 million for its enterprise AI agent platform, suggesting a change in how enterprises plan AI rollouts 2.
- The company pairs software with locally embedded teams. Engineering groups sometimes work on premises at customer sites, since complex adoption often needs hands-on setup rather than self-service tools 2.
- This approach puts pressure on the “build once, sell everywhere” software model.
- Growth across more than 30 countries suggests execution may depend on local deployment services as much as the underlying technology 3.
- The hiring burden raises the bar for competitors. Wonderful plans to reach about 900 employees by year-end 3.
