Israeli cybersecurity firm Sola raises $35m series A

Sola Security, an Israel-based startup that builds AI tools for cybersecurity, has raised US$35 million in a series A round.

The funding was led by S32 with participation from Microsoft’s M12, New Era Capital Partners, and existing backers including Mike Moritz, S Capital, and Glilot Capital Partners.

This follows a US$30 million seed round in 2024, bringing Sola’s total funding to US$65 million.

Sola has also signed a cooperation agreement with Microsoft as part of the deal.

Founded in 2024 by Guy Flechter and Ron Peled, Sola offers a platform that lets security teams build custom AI-powered cybersecurity solutions.

The company reports over 2,000 users and more than 1,000 applications built on its platform in areas such as identity management and cloud security.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Cybersecurity market shifts toward AI-first approaches amid explosive growth

  • The AI cybersecurity market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with projections showing a 24.4% compound annual growth rate from 2025 to 2030, reaching $93.75 billion1.
  • This rapid expansion reflects a fundamental shift in how organizations approach cybersecurity, moving beyond traditional tools to AI-enabled solutions that can adapt and respond to evolving threats.
  • Sola’s approach of providing tools for building custom AI security solutions addresses a critical gap, as 78% of CISOs now report significant impacts from AI-powered threats2.
  • The company’s strategy of enabling security teams to develop tailored solutions rather than selling pre-built software aligns with the growing recognition that one-size-fits-all cybersecurity approaches are insufficient for modern threat landscapes.
  • With over 2,000 users building more than 1,000 AI applications in just six months since launch, Sola demonstrates strong market demand for customizable AI security tools.

Microsoft’s strategic investment signals platform consolidation in enterprise AI security

  • Microsoft’s entry as an investor through its M12 fund, coupled with a cooperation agreement, reflects the tech giant’s strategy to integrate AI security capabilities across its enterprise ecosystem.
  • This mirrors Microsoft’s broader approach with tools like Security Copilot, an AI-driven virtual assistant that analyzes security data and prioritizes threats for users within the Microsoft ecosystem3.
  • The timing coincides with a critical skills shortage in cybersecurity, where insufficient AI knowledge and personnel gaps are identified as major barriers to effective defense against AI threats2.
  • Sola’s founder Guy Flechter brings proven execution experience, having previously built and sold Cider Security to Palo Alto Networks for $300 million, providing credibility for this platform-based approach to AI security tools.
  • The partnership structure suggests Microsoft sees value in enabling customers to build custom security solutions rather than competing directly with specialized AI security vendors.
