Israeli cybersecurity firm SentinelOne spikes 10% on $10b rumor
SentinelOne, an Israeli cybersecurity firm, experienced a 10% stock increase on July 21, following reports of acquisition discussions with Palo Alto Networks.
The trading volume for SentinelOne shares was nearly seven times higher than average, marking one of its best trading days since its 2021 IPO.
Palo Alto Networks, the largest cybersecurity company in the world, initially denied the acquisition rumors.
However, it later stated, “We do not comment on rumor or speculation.” It is currently unclear whether the negotiations will lead to a deal.
If the acquisition proceeds, it could represent Palo Alto’s largest to date. This deal could potentially value SentinelOne at nearly US$10 billion, surpassing SentinelOne’s IPO price and offering shareholders a substantial premium.
As of now, SentinelOne’s market capitalization is approximately US$6.5 billion, with its stock trading around 50% below its IPO price.
SentinelOne specializes in endpoint detection and response (EDR) and extended detection and response (XDR) technologies. It primarily serves small and medium-sized businesses.
Despite reporting revenue growth—ending 2024 at US$820 million, more than double its 2023 figures—the company continues to incur losses. A 38% operating loss was reported on US$229 million in revenue in its latest quarterly report.
SentinelOne has not commented on the ongoing speculation. Trading resumed Tuesday with its stock remaining steady.
