Israeli cybersecurity firm LayerX nets $11m series A extension

Israeli cybersecurity firm LayerX has raised US$11 million in an extension of its series A funding round.

This increase brings its total funding to US$45 million.

The funding round was led by Jump Capital, with continued participation from Glilot Capital Partners and Dell Technologies Capital.

Founded in 2022 and based in Tel Aviv, LayerX specializes in Secure Enterprise Browser (SEB) solutions.

Its technology functions as a lightweight extension on popular browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Browser-based security represents a major shift in cybersecurity strategy

The emergence of companies like LayerX reflects a fundamental evolution in cybersecurity approaches from network-centric to browser-centric solutions.

This shift didn’t happen overnight. It developed in response to specific historical threats, including the 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack, which affected over 200,000 computers across 150 countries, causing estimated damages of $4 billion1.

Traditional perimeter security approaches have become increasingly obsolete as organizations adopt cloud-based services and remote work models, creating a need for security that travels with users regardless of location2.

The trend is validated by industry analysts, with Gartner recently identifying Secure Enterprise Browsers as a distinct and growing cybersecurity category amid increasing SaaS adoption and remote work arrangements.

This represents a third significant shift in enterprise security, following network firewalls in the 1990s and cloud security gateways in the 2010s. Each evolution was driven by fundamental changes in how businesses operate and deploy technology.

2️⃣ The secure enterprise browser market faces a critical user experience challenge

LayerX’s extension-based approach directly addresses a key obstacle in the enterprise browser market: user resistance to changing familiar workflows.

According to multiple sources, enterprise browser adoption has historically struggled due to the friction caused by forcing users to abandon their preferred browsers, explaining why LayerX deliberately avoided the “rip-and-replace” approach of competitors like Island23.
