Israeli cyber unicorn Cyera lets staff sell shares worth millions

Cyera, a cybersecurity unicorn valued at US$9 billion, will allow employees to sell shares worth tens of millions of dollars through the Cyberstarts Employee Liquidity Fund.

The company recently raised US$400 million and has about 1,100 employees, with several hundred eligible to participate in the program.

This is the first Cyberstarts portfolio company to join the fund, which offers recurring annual liquidity for employees.

The US$300 million fund was launched in July 2025 to reward key talent without requiring them to leave the company.

Evolution Equity Partners also joined the tender offer, while Cyberstarts founder Gili Raanan said the program aims to strengthen employees’ long-term role in the company’s future.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Cyera’s valuation tripled as AI and data security demand rose

  • Cyera offered employees a way to sell some shares after fast growth, with its valuation rising to US$9 billion from a year earlier 1.
  • Enterprise AI spending helped fuel the jump; CEO Yotam Segev said, “Our business had legs before AI. But with AI, it’s got wings” 2.
  • The company raised US$400 million about six months after a US$540 million round 3.
  • Cyera says revenue grew 3.4x over the past year and 20% of the Fortune 500 now use its products 3.

Cyera’s liquidity program aims to keep staff during cybersecurity consolidation

  • Cyberstarts says the program gives employees yearly chances to sell shares, while encouraging long-term retention 4.
  • Since May 2023, seven data security posture management (DSPM) startups, companies that help organizations find, understand, and reduce security risks in their data, were bought by larger vendors. BankInfoSecurity says that leaves Cyera as the largest standalone DSPM firm 5.
  • Share-sale options can also signal staying power, unlike Lacework, which raised at an US$8.3 billion valuation and later sold to Fortinet for US$152.3 million 5.
  • BankInfoSecurity says Cyera could reach an IPO in the next couple of years on the NASDAQ or New York Stock Exchange if it keeps its pace 5.
