Israeli cyber firm Torq buys fellow startup for $70m

Israel-based cybersecurity firm Torq said it has acquired Jit, another Israeli cybersecurity startup, in a deal estimated at about US$70 million, as it adds Jit’s AI context technology to its security operations platform.

Jit founder David Melamed and the company’s roughly 30 employees will join Torq, and Torq said the technology will be used to improve how security teams identify, rank, investigate, and respond to threats.

Torq, founded by Ofer Smadari, Leonid Belkind, and Eldad Livni, recently raised US$140 million at a US$1.2 billion valuation, while Jit, founded in 2021 by Melamed and Aviram Shmueli, has raised nearly US$40 million.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Torq is using acquisitions to build its AI security operations center platform

  • Jit began as a security-as-code platform for software developers. It later shifted toward AI agents plus its AI Context Graph technology 1.
  • The graph links code with user identities, job roles, and system privileges. It also tracks runtime behavior plus how sensitive the underlying data is. That gives AI agents company-specific context for risk assessment 1.
  • The deal continues Torq’s pattern of bringing acquired engineering teams plus reasoning components into its platform. It follows the earlier RevRod acquisition 1.

The deal marks a move toward more proactive AI in cybersecurity

  • Security operations teams often face more alerts than they can handle. Older tools such as security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR) aim to help 2. Security information and event management (SIEM) tools do as well 2. Torq says its platform goes beyond those systems 2.
  • With Jit’s context graph, Torq wants to go past response automation. The goal is autonomous threat containment plus threat prevention with more confidence 1.
  • This AI-led model is gaining ground with large enterprises. Marriott, PepsiCo, and Siemens are among the organizations Torq says it protects 2.
