Israeli AI startup Onfire emerges from stealth with $20m round

Onfire, an Israeli startup using AI to identify developer buying signals from public forums, has raised US$20 million as it emerges from stealth.

The funding includes a US$14 million series A co-led by Grove Ventures and TLV Partners, with participation from IN Venture and LeumiTech 77.

Founded by Unit 8200 alumni Tal Peretz, Shahar Shavit, and Nitzan Hada, Onfire’s platform analyzes discussions on sites like Hacker News, Reddit, and Stack Overflow to help B2B sales teams target technical buyers.

Early users include ActiveFence, Aiven, Cyera, Port, and Spectro Cloud.

The startup will use the funds to hire in AI, R&D, and sales, with its AI team in Israel and go-to-market operations in New York, focusing on the US market.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Onfire enters a maturing intent-data market where Bombora and 6sense are leading providers with custom pricing

  • The business-to-business (B2B) intent data market tracks signals that reveal when companies research or plan to buy. Bombora follows research across 5,000+ B2B platforms 1. 6sense combines third-party intent data with predictive analytics to map buying stages 2. Both sell through custom pricing 1.
  • Onfire mines developer chatter on Hacker News and Stack Overflow to carve a niche. It runs into rivals such as G2, a software review marketplace that connects to 90 million software buyers 1. ZoomInfo offers sales intelligence with real-time buyer intent plus detailed firmographics 1.
  • The hurdle for Onfire is proving value beyond incumbents that already plug into Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and marketing automation tools. User feedback on 6sense cites data accuracy issues and vague insights for the price 2.

Data providers and Application Programming Interface (API) vendors can capitalize on growing enterprise demand for compliant access to forum discussion data

  • Reddit’s data licensing revenue rose 24% year over year to $34.8 million in Q2 2025 3. Platforms that control user content now sell access as AI firms and sales intelligence tools seek training data and live signals.
  • Vendors that build data enrichment or governance tools can serve companies like Onfire that need structured, compliant access to forum data. Reddit has sued scrapers such as Perplexity, Oxylabs, and AWMProxy for unauthorized extraction 4.
  • API providers and data brokers need to study current licensing terms from platforms like Reddit, which has agreements with Google and OpenAI 5. That work informs partnerships and product plans as enterprises seek historical datasets and real-time forum activity while avoiding legal risk.
