IREN buys $1.6b Nvidia AI systems from Dell
IREN, a data center operator in Singapore and Australia, said on May 26 it agreed to buy about US$1.6 billion in Nvidia air-cooled Blackwell systems from Dell for its Childress, Texas campus.
The equipment is expected to be ready by early 2027.
The deal will support IREN’s previously announced five-year US$3.4 billion cloud AI services contract with Dell.
The purchase covers graphics processing units (GPUs), servers, storage, networking, ancillary equipment, integration services, and warranties.
IREN said the systems are expected to lift annualised revenue run rate to US$4.4 billion from US$3.7 billion once commissioned.
Childress is a 576-acre site with 750 megawatts of secured power capacity.
IREN has separately said air-cooled Blackwell systems for Nvidia workloads there would use about 60 megawatts of existing capacity.
Separately, Nvidia said it has the right to invest up to US$2.1 billion in IREN through an option over up to 30 million shares at US$70 each for five years.
