US investor Cathie Wood’s Ark buys Alibaba shares after 4 years

United States star fund manager Cathie Wood has purchased US$16.3 million worth of Alibaba shares, marking her first investment in the Chinese ecommerce giant in four years and signaling confidence in its push into AI and on-demand services.

Her Ark Fintech Innovation ETF and Ark Next Generation Internet ETF each bought over US$8 million worth of Alibaba’s American depositary receipts on September 22, 2025.

Wood’s last known investment in Alibaba was in 2021, after which many foreign investors reduced exposure to Chinese tech due to regulatory crackdowns.
