US investor Ares seeks $8b to fund AI-driven data center expansion

Ares Management Corp. has set a target to raise over US$8 billion in equity for data center investments in London, Japan, and Brazil.

The Los Angeles-based asset manager told investors it aims to boost fundraising from wealthy individuals to US$125 billion by 2028, up US$25 billion from earlier goals.

Ares raised US$2.4 billion for data centers in the first half of 2025 and operates a dedicated fund for digital infrastructure in Japan.

The firm expects strong demand for data centers as AI adoption accelerates, with global data centers projected to use 1,600 terawatt-hours of electricity by 2035.
