Investment firm Groww to buy wealthtech startup in $140m deal
Groww has signed an agreement to acquire wealthtech startup Fisdom in an all-cash deal valued between US$140 million and US$160 million.
The transaction is pending approval from Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and is aimed at strengthening Groww’s position in the wealth management space.
This move aligns with Groww’s expansion plans and its upcoming US$700 million public listing.
Founded in 2015, Fisdom offers mutual funds, stocks, bonds, portfolio management, and tax filing services. It reported EBITDA profitability in Q4 FY24 and earned 84 crore rupee (US$9.82 million) in revenue that fiscal year.
The company has served over one million customers and raised US$48 million from investors like PayU, Saama Capital, and Quona Capital.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Indian wealthtech consolidation intensifies amid market maturation
Groww’s acquisition of Fisdom for $150 million reveals an accelerating consolidation trend in India’s wealthtech sector, where scale is becoming increasingly vital for survival.
Fisdom had raised approximately $48 million and achieved a valuation of $103 million in 2023 before being acquired, showing a healthy exit multiple despite being acquired below unicorn status1.
This acquisition represents Groww’s second significant purchase following its earlier acquisition of Indiabulls Asset Management Company, demonstrating a strategic pattern of expansion through acquisitions rather than purely organic growth1.
The trend aligns with global wealthtech consolidation, where platforms offering comprehensive services are gaining an advantage over standalone products by creating integrated financial ecosystems that serve multiple customer needs.
Industry data shows smaller wealthtech players struggling with high customer acquisition costs against established players, making consolidation an inevitable outcome in the competitive Indian market.
2️⃣ Bank partnerships emerge as critical strategic assets in wealth management
Fisdom’s partnerships with 15 banks, including Punjab National Bank and Indian Bank, represent a strategic distribution advantage that would be difficult and time-consuming for Groww to build organically1.
These banking relationships are particularly valuable as they provide access to a broader customer base beyond tech-savvy urban investors, potentially helping Groww tap into India’s growing tier 2 and tier 3 markets.
