Investment firm delays Tesla fund after Musk’s political move

Investment firm Azoria Partners has delayed the launch of its Tesla-focused exchange-traded fund (ETF), which was set to debut next week.

The fund aims to invest in Tesla shares and options.

The decision follows Elon Musk’s announcement on X about forming a new US political party called the “America Party,” shortly after conducting a poll with his followers.

Azoria CEO James Fishback responded on X, voicing support for Donald Trump and urging Tesla’s board to review the impact of Musk’s political ambitions on his CEO role.

He noted that confidence in Tesla’s future has been affected.

Tesla has not commented.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Musk’s political evolution reflects his growing influence beyond business

Elon Musk’s announcement of the “America Party” represents a significant escalation in his political involvement, which has evolved dramatically over time.

In 2015, Musk expressed discomfort with Trump’s candidacy and had historically leaned Democratic, including a $5,000 donation to Hillary Clinton that same year 1.

His relationship with Trump has followed a complex trajectory, from serving on two Trump advisory councils in 2017 to eventually resigning over the Paris Climate Agreement withdrawal 1.

This latest political move comes after Musk has increasingly aligned with conservative positions, including his contribution of $38,900 to a Republican PAC in 2018 aimed at maintaining GOP control of the House 2.

The postponement of Azoria’s Tesla ETF highlights how Musk’s growing political ambitions now directly impact financial instruments tied to his companies. This creates a new dimension of risk for investors who must now factor in his political activities when evaluating Tesla’s prospects.

2️⃣ CEO personal brands increasingly impact company valuations and financial products

The Tesla ETF postponement demonstrates how CEO behavior outside corporate duties can directly affect investment vehicles and shareholder value.
