Intel’s new CEO to get $1m salary, $66m stock grants

Intel’s newly appointed CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, will receive a US$1 million annual salary and approximately US$66 million in stock options and grants, according to an SEC filing on Mar. 14.

His equity package includes US$14.4 million in long-term stock grants, US$17 million in performance-based grants vesting over five years, US$9.6 million in stock options, and a US$25 million new hire grant.

He is also eligible for a US$2 million annual bonus and may qualify for accelerated vesting if Intel undergoes a change in control.

Tan, set to begin next week, was named CEO after Pat Gelsinger’s removal in December 2024. His appointment follows Intel’s 20% stock rise this year, much of it after the announcement.

As part of his compensation, Tan has committed to purchasing US$25 million in Intel shares, a condition for his grants and bonuses.

Intel said that his compensation aligns with long-term shareholder value and reflects his extensive tech industry experience.
