Intel-backed chipmaker Altera confidentially files for US IPO

Altera, a US chipmaker backed by Silver Lake and Intel, said on September 15 that it had confidentially filed for an initial public offering in the US.

The offering could raise more than US$2 billion as early as this year, according to people familiar with the matter.

The filing follows Silver Lake’s investment in Altera after Intel carved out the business. Intel retained a stake in the standalone company.

Altera’s programmable chips are used in data centers, telecommunications networks, industrial equipment, AI applications, and aerospace and defense systems.
