Intel stock up 50% in a month, US stake hits $16b

Intel shares rose 3% on September 2, 2025, bringing their monthly gain to over 50% and lifting the stock above US$37.

The surge increased the value of the US government’s 10% stake in Intel to around US$16 billion.

The government acquired 433.3 million shares in August for US$8.9 billion as part of an investment negotiated during the Trump administration.

This stake is funded by grants from the US CHIPS and Science Act, under which Intel has already received US$2.2 billion, with another US$5.7 billion scheduled and a further US$3.2 billion from a separate program.

Other major investors include SoftBank and Nvidia, which announced a US$5 billion investment in September to co-develop data centers and PC products with Intel.
