Intel Q2 outlook beats estimates on AI chip demand
Intel forecast June-quarter revenue of US$13.8 billion to US$14.8 billion.
It adjusted earnings of about 20 cents a share as demand rose for Xeon server chips used in AI systems.
For the quarter ended March 28, Intel reported revenue of US$13.6 billion, up 7%, and adjusted profit of 29 cents a share.
Its foundry unit made US$5.4 billion, while the PC chip business made US$7.7 billion and the data center unit made US$5.1 billion.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The upbeat figures leave out Intel’s deeper financial strain
- Intel reported first quarter 2025 revenue of US$12.7 billion, not US$13.6 billion 1.
- Intel forecast next quarter revenue of US$11.2 billion to US$12.4 billion on a non-GAAP basis, which is flat to lower than the first quarter’s US$12.7 billion 1.
- The foundry unit brought in revenue, yet posted an operating loss of US$2.3 billion for the quarter 2.
- Intel also posted adjusted free cash flow of negative US$3.7 billion as its new CEO, five weeks into the job, starts a restructuring aimed at improving the balance sheet 2.
Intel’s turnaround depends on growing its foundry business beyond its own chip sales
- Intel wants its foundry business, a contract chip manufacturing operation that makes chips for other companies, to become an alternative to Asia for advanced chips including AI silicon 3.
- A proposed partnership with Elon Musk’s Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI to build a “Terafab,” a very large chip manufacturing complex, sits at the center of that plan 3.
- The factory is meant to produce nearly 70% of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s (TSMC) current global output, with custom chips for Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robot and SpaceX’s orbital AI infrastructure 3.
- That bet ties Intel’s future to large technology projects and a larger role in Western AI development 3.
