Intel prepares for fourth straight revenue decline
Intel is set to release its quarterly results on April 24, marking a key moment for new CEO Lip-Bu Tan.
The company is expected to post its fourth straight quarterly revenue decline, with analysts forecasting a 3.4% drop.
Tan, who became CEO in March after leaving Intel’s board in 2024, has started restructuring leadership.
Key chip divisions now report directly to him, aiming to streamline operations and refocus resources on chip manufacturing.
Intel is under pressure from AMD in the PC and data center markets, while Nvidia leads in AI. Its AI strategy remains uncertain, with Falcon Shores chips still in internal testing.
Geopolitical tensions add risk. China, Intel’s largest market in 2024, accounted for nearly a third of its revenue. The US-China trade conflict raises the threat of tariffs, which could hurt Intel.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Intel’s transformation requires tackling deeply rooted cultural challenges
Intel’s struggles stem from years of strategic missteps rooted in what observers have described as a corporate culture that prioritized margins over market opportunities.
When Apple approached Intel to create processors for the original iPhone, then-CEO Paul Otellini rejected the opportunity, later calling it his biggest regret and admitting he “didn’t see the future clearly” 1.
This pattern continued with the Atom processor, which despite being designed for mobile devices, was underfunded and neglected in favor of more profitable Core processors, allowing Qualcomm to dominate the mobile chip market 2.
Intel’s belief in its manufacturing superiority became a liability when it missed critical market shifts, exemplifying how entrenched corporate cultures can blind leadership to emerging opportunities.
Tan’s challenge goes beyond financial restructuring. Intel’s flattened leadership structure signals recognition that cultural transformation is essential for any sustainable turnaround.
2️⃣ AMD’s market share gains reflect sustained competitive execution
While Intel struggles with its turnaround, recent data demonstrates AMD’s momentum in directly challenging Intel’s core business positions.
