Intel-backed Articul8 eyes up to $50m for India AI unit
Articul8, a Santa Clara-based enterprise AI startup spun out of Intel in 2024, is seeking US$30 million to US$50 million for an India-based AI venture, according to people familiar with the talks.
The entity would focused on traditional knowledge systems, including Sanskrit
Articul8 is in early talks with Peak XV Partners, Accel, family offices tied to industrial groups, and strategic investors such as Aditya Birla Group.
The venture has an exclusive partnership with Madras Sanskrit College.
Articul8 said intellectual property generated through the heritage initiative would remain in India while licensing core technology from the parent company.
DigitalBridge Ventures led Articul8’s formation as an independent company using Intel-developed intellectual property.
Intel still holds equity alongside a syndicate of venture investors.
By January 2026, Articul8 had secured more than half of a planned US$70 million series B round at a US$500 million pre-money valuation, with Aditya Birla Ventures participating.
The expansion comes as India pushes ahead with sovereign AI initiatives.
The government has selected Sarvam to build a sovereign large language model designed for Indian languages.
