Insight Partners leads $20m series A for US AI startup Tavily

Tavily, an AI firm that has developed a search layer for AI agents, has raised US$20 million in a series A round led by Insight Partners and Alpha Wave Global.

The company, which employs staff in New York, Tel Aviv, and Abu Dhabi, has now secured a total of US$25 million in funding.

Tavily’s platform provides AI agents with access to live web data through a unified search interface.

The company said its technology is being used by Fortune 500 companies and tech firms, including Cohere and Groq.

Tavily employs about 30 staff and plans to double its headcount by the end of this year.

Alpha Wave Global, which also participated in Tavily’s previous funding round, helped incubate the company a year ago.

Tavily was founded by Rotem Weiss, Assaf Elovic, and Yuval Rozio.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ AI search infrastructure becomes increasingly competitive as demand grows

Tavily operates in a rapidly expanding but crowded market with numerous specialized competitors offering similar AI-powered search capabilities.

Alternatives like Exa provide AI-optimized search engines, Perplexity Sonar API combines web crawling with language models, and Brave Search API offers independent indexing, each targeting different aspects of AI agent search needs 1.

The variety of solutions, from RAG Web Browser for LangChain integration to Website Content Crawler for site-wide data extraction, demonstrates how the market is fragmenting into specialized niches rather than consolidating around single platforms.

This competitive landscape suggests that Tavily’s $20 million funding reflects both the significant market opportunity and the need for substantial resources to differentiate and scale in this space.

The presence of multiple viable alternatives also indicates that customers are actively seeking AI search solutions, validating the market demand that Tavily is targeting with its over one million monthly downloads.

2️⃣ Israel’s AI startup boom provides fertile ground for search infrastructure companies
