Insight Partners joins $50m series D for Israeli climate-tech firm

Beewise, an Israeli climate-tech startup, has raised US$50 million in a series D funding round to expand its AI-driven beehive technology.

The funding round included contributions from Fortissimo Capital, Insight Partners, APG Asset Management, lool Ventures, and Badiya Capital, raising the company’s total funding to nearly US$170 million.

Its main product, BeeHome, is a solar-powered robotic hive that autonomously monitors and manages bee colonies.

BeeHome offers real-time diagnostics and automated pest and climate control to prevent colony collapse.

Beewise has deployed over 1,240 units globally, supporting pollination across 300,000 acres with partners like Olam and Agriland.

With bee populations rapidly declining, the company aims to protect a species vital to global food and plant ecosystems.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ The accelerating bee crisis represents a multi-billion dollar agricultural emergency

The $50 million investment in Beewise reflects the economic urgency of addressing pollinator decline, which threatens significantly more than just honey production.

Bee pollination directly contributes $15-30 billion annually to U.S. agriculture alone, making the 62% colony loss rate mentioned in the article an existential threat to food production systems 1.

This crisis has been building for decades, with managed honey bee colonies in the U.S. plummeting from approximately 6 million in 1947 to about 2.4 million by 2008—a 60% decline that continues to worsen 2.

The ripple effects extend throughout the food supply chain, with California’s almond industry representing 80% of global production and requiring approximately 1.4 million bee colonies annually for pollination 1.

As colony rental costs approach $300 per hive due to scarcity, these increased production expenses are already being passed to consumers through higher food prices 3.

Beewise’s significant funding represents a market recognition that technological intervention has become essential, as traditional beekeeping methods struggle to contend with the complex combination of parasites, pesticides, and climate factors.

2️⃣ The Varroa mite remains the primary driver of colony collapse despite media focus on pesticides
