Indonesia’s pay later debt hits $1.81b
In January 2025, the total value of pay later transactions in Indonesia, conducted through banks and financing companies, was 29.69 trillion rupiah (US$1.81 billion).
This represents a nearly 50% increase compared to December 2024.
Year-on-year, pay later transactions facilitated by financing companies grew by 41.9%, reaching 7.12 trillion rupiah (US$433 million).
Pay later transactions via banks also saw a significant increase of 46.45% year-on-year, totaling 22.57 trillion rupiah (US$1.37 billion).
The number of bank-facilitated pay later accounts increased to 24.44 million, up from 23.99 million in December 2024, representing 0.29% of total bank credit disbursement, as said by Dian Ediana Rae, Executive Supervisor of Banking at OJK.
A survey by Kredivo and Katadata Insight Center found that 70.4% of paylater users are aged between 18 to 35 years.
