Indonesia’s IDN acquires venue operator M Bloc
IDN, an Indonesian media and entertainment company, said it has acquired local venue operator M Bloc Group to expand its culture and entertainment business, with the assets to be grouped under a new platform called IDN Bloc.
The deal is meant to link IDN’s digital ecosystem with physical creative spaces across Indonesia, said founder and CEO Winston Utomo in a LinkedIn post.
Utomo did not disclose the financial terms.
M Bloc Group runs M Bloc Space in the Indonesian capital Jakarta as well as Posbloc venues in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Medan, and Lokananta Bloc in Solo. Each site will keep its current name.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The acquisition backs a tested way to revive city spaces
- M Bloc Group centers its business on adaptive reuse, a practice that gives aging or idle buildings new uses while keeping their cultural character.
- Its flagship M Bloc Space opened in 2019 on former employee housing plus a warehouse once owned by Peruri, Indonesia’s state banknote printing company.
- That approach spread through partnerships, including Posbloc venues with Pos Indonesia, the state-owned postal company, turning neglected properties into busy places for cafes, live music, and shops.
IDN adds real-world venues to its digital reach
- The deal gives IDN an established set of creative spaces that fits its culture and entertainment plans.
- Locations in Surabaya, Medan, and Solo extend its physical presence and help it connect with creative communities outside Jakarta.
- This move follows a broader shift among digital-first media and entertainment companies toward physical spaces, which can deepen community ties and create in-person brand experiences that online platforms cannot match.
