Indonesia’s EV market grew 49% in Q3 2025, bucking a wider 11% drop in the country’s light vehicle sales, according to PwC’s Electric Vehicle Readiness 2025 report.

The report said Indonesia’s auto market was hit by higher luxury taxes, lower government spending, and a weaker rupiah, while EV sales surged despite the slowdown.

Across ASEAN, the average rise in EV sales reached 62%, with Thailand and Vietnam leading in adoption rates at 30% and 33%, respectively.

Indonesia’s EV adoption rate remains below the regional average, and consumer surveys found only 14% of respondents own an EV, while 70% are considering one, and 17% are skeptical.

Price, limited driving range, battery durability, and charging time were cited as the biggest concerns among potential buyers.

Indonesia scored 2.8 out of 5 for EV readiness, with strong government incentives but lagging infrastructure and vehicle supply compared to Singapore and Vietnam.
