Indonesian research startup Populix raises $4.3m series B
Indonesian research startup Populix has raised US$4.3 million in the first close of its series B funding round.
The round was led by MSW V Asia Fund X, with participation from existing investors Intudo Ventures, Altos Ventures, and Acrew Capital.
Populix plans to use the funds to enhance its AI capabilities.
This includes developing AI models for automating research processes and creating synthetic respondents to speed up data collection.
In 2023, Populix launched Policy & Society Research to analyze public sentiment and trends. The company also introduced NeXa, an AI-based research assistant that helps users create questionnaires, access respondent groups, and analyze results.
The funding will support Populix’s efforts to scale its offerings across Southeast Asia.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Counter-cyclical growth in market research amid tech investment winter
Populix’s funding success stands out against the stark Indonesian investment climate where total funding declined 34% year-over-year and investment value plummeted by 66% in 2024 according to DealStreetAsia.
This pattern suggests market research may be increasingly valued during economic uncertainty, as businesses require more reliable data to navigate volatile markets.
The company’s ability to attract $4.3 million in Series B funding contradicts the broader trend in Southeast Asia’s tech ecosystem, where Indonesia experienced the deepest funding decline in the region.
This counter-cyclical success parallels historical patterns where data and analytics companies have demonstrated resilience during downturns, as their services become essential rather than discretionary when strategic decision-making carries higher stakes.
The doubling of Populix’s total projects, with 65% coming from recurring clients, further validates this trend of increased demand for market insights during economic challenges.
2️⃣ AI adoption as competitive differentiator in Southeast Asia’s research market
Populix’s development of NeXa (AI research assistant) and synthetic respondents positions them strategically in a region where only 23% of Southeast Asian companies are considered transformative in AI adoption 1.
