Indonesian ministry staff detained in online gambling probe
Indonesia’s deputy minister of communications and digital Nezar Patria confirmed that ministry employees linked to online gambling syndicates were under observation before being detained.
The employees assigned to regulate and block online gambling sites were found to be involved in allowing these activities.
Prior to their arrests, they had faced disciplinary actions and job reassignments within the ministry.
On November 1, Jakarta Metropolitan Police apprehended 14 individuals, including 11 ministry employees, in Bekasi, West Java, as part of the ongoing gambling investigation.
The police also searched the ministry’s Jakarta office, collecting evidence.
