Indonesia upholds iPhone 16 ban after Apple’s $1b offer
Indonesia has upheld its ban on iPhone 16 sales due to Apple’s failure to meet a regulation requiring that 40% of phone parts be sourced locally, officials announced on Wednesday.
The ban was first imposed in October 2024.
The regulation aims to encourage domestic investments from major technology companies.
Apple previously offered to increase its investments by US$100 million in November, but this proposal was rejected.
Despite the sales ban, approximately 9,000 iPhone 16 units have entered Indonesia through non-commercial means, according to government estimates.
