Indonesia to roll out national AI rules in early 2026
Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital said two national AI regulations are awaiting the signature of President Prabowo Subianto, and are expected to be issued in early 2026.
The pending rules, covering an AI roadmap and AI ethics, will take the form of presidential regulations.
Officials said the drafts were completed about two months ago, and are now in the signing queue.
Minister Meutya Hafid said roughly 90% of the work on the regulations has been finished.
The ministry said the regulations will serve as an overarching framework, allowing other government bodies to develop sector-specific AI rules.
The government has also launched several innovation hubs in Jakarta, Bandung, and Medan to support digital talent and innovation in Indonesia.
