Indonesia to impose age limits for children on social media
Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is taking new steps to protect children in the digital space, addressing threats like online gambling, pornography, cyberbullying, and sexual violence.
Meutya Hafid, Indonesia’s minister of communication and digital, announced the formation of a team to develop regulations in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to finalize them in one to two months.
The initiative includes age restrictions for children on social media, improved digital literacy for kids and parents, and stronger monitoring and legal enforcement against harmful content.
The minister is collaborating with officials from child protection, education, religious affairs, health sectors, as well as representatives from government agencies, academia, practitioners, and children’s NGOs.
