Indonesia restricts iPhone 16 sales over local content law

The Indonesian Industry Ministry announced that Apple’s iPhone 16 is prohibited from being sold in the country.

The prohibition is due to the company’s failure to meet local component level requirements, known as TKDN.

Spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief stated that while iPhone 16 units are permitted entry for personal use, they must be brought by passengers or sent by post.

Items that meet the 35% TKDN threshold are exceptions to this rule.

The ministry reported that around 9,000 iPhone 16 units entered Indonesia via passenger transport from August to October 2024, all of which were subject to taxes.

Despite being legal entries, these devices cannot be sold.
