Indonesia pauses BDx AI data center project over permits
Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein said BDx, a Singapore-headquartered data center operator, must complete its environmental impact assessment (AMDAL) before construction resumes on its AI data center in Jatiluhur. After that, the company must obtain PBG building approval. West Java temporarily halted the project after an inspection found incomplete requirements.
Binzein said the Purwakarta administration is still waiting for BDx’s AMDAL consultant to discuss the document. He said the review is needed to determine how serious the project’s environmental impact could be.
A West Java official separately said permit authority lies with the Purwakarta regency government, while the provincial government mainly handles oversight and coordination.
Water use is also being reviewed. Initial demand is estimated at 6,000 cubic meters a day. In a later phase, demand is projected to reach 384 liters per second, or about 33,000 cubic meters a day.
