Indonesian lawmakers have raised concerns that ride-hailing platforms Gojek, Grab, and Maxim are charging drivers commission fees as high as 50%, exceeding the government-mandated 20% cap.

During a public hearing on Mar. 5, members of Commission V cited ongoing driver complaints.

The Ministry of Transportation’s Decree Number KP 667 of 2022 limits deductions to 20%, including 15% for revenue sharing and 5% for additional costs. However, drivers reported actual deductions ranging from 30% to 50%, making it difficult to sustain their income.

Gojek, Grab, and Maxim have not responded to these allegations in the recent hearing.

Previously, Maxim claimed its commissions ranged from 5% to 15%, while Gojek and Grab said they followed the 20% cap. However, drivers pointed to programs like Gojek’s “Aceng” and Grab’s “Slot,” which allegedly result in higher deductions.

“Aceng” reportedly lowers driver earnings to Rp 5,000 per ride, while “Slot” increases order volume but can lead to deductions exceeding 50%.

Drivers continue to voice dissatisfaction, fueling protests and scrutiny within Indonesia’s ride-hailing sector.
