Indonesia has introduced Southeast Asia’s first electric vehicle (EV) battery plant, a US$1.1 billion facility developed by Hyundai and LG.

Located in West Java and launched in July, the plant marks a step toward making Indonesia a regional hub in the EV industry.

Despite having the world’s largest nickel reserves, Indonesia faces challenges in EV battery production.

These include limited processing capacities and environmental issues.
