Indonesia enforces age verification rules for digital platforms
Indonesia’s deputy minister of communication and digital Nezar Patria has called for digital platforms to implement age verification systems to protect children online.
During a meeting with YouTube representatives in Jakarta, he emphasized that technology should be used to identify users’ ages as part of platform responsibility.
Indonesia’s government regulation No. 17 of 2025 requires platforms to verify user ages and restrict access to inappropriate content for minors.
Nezar noted that age identification would prevent children from viewing unsuitable material and praised YouTube’s existing features for parental supervision.
Leslie Miller, YouTube’s global head of government affairs, said the platform offers tools to facilitate parental control, including account access management for children.
The government encourages other platforms to adopt similar measures to enhance online safety for minors.
