Indonesia, Amazon Kuiper partner to bridge digital gaps
Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is exploring a collaboration with Amazon Kuiper, Amazon’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite project, to enhance internet accessibility in remote 3T areas.
Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized the crucial role of satellite technology in bridging digital gaps and highlighted the need for investments and new technologies.
During a meeting at Kemkomdigi’s Jakarta headquarters, Amazon Kuiper reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation.
Amazon Kuiper is seeking operational licenses, including telecommunications and satellite borrowing rights, to comply with Indonesia’s regulations for foreign enterprises.
The collaboration aims to improve the digital ecosystem, benefiting small businesses and enhancing government, health, and education services.
If successful, millions in 3T areas could gain better internet access, boosting economic opportunities and overall quality of life.
