India’s Wipro says AI boosted productivity by 20,000 workers
Wipro, an India-based IT services company, said on September 10 that its AI initiatives had lifted productivity by the equivalent of 20,000 employees.
CTO Sandhya Arun said those workers were redeployed rather than replaced.
Arun said Wipro had about 243,000 employees in June.
More than 100,000 employees have received advanced AI training and certifications as the company shifts to what she called a “human-AI operating model.”
She also said Wipro was expanding its pool of engineers embedded with clients on AI projects.
Arun did not give a target, but said Wipro’s client-facing AI engineering workforce would likely be in line with peers.
The comments come as India’s US$315 billion software services sector adjusts hiring and software delivery for AI.
Wipro is the only IT company among India’s top four that does not disclose AI revenue.
