India’s Tata Communications plans $450m AI fiber investment
Tata Communications, an India-based provider of enterprise connectivity and cybersecurity services, said on October 26 that it plans to invest nearly US$450 million to build fibre links for AI data center corridors across India.
The project will add about 10,000 km of long-haul fibre to connect data center clusters with cloud services companies, global capability centers, banks, and other organizations.
The three-phase rollout will first cover the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai corridor, then expand to data center ecosystems on India’s east coast and in western India, including Vizag, Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar, and GIFT City.
Separately, Airtel is betting on edge data centers as India’s AI infrastructure race heats up.
India’s Department of Telecommunications operates a portal for right-of-way permissions and said the notified rules are intended to enable faster deployment of telecom infrastructure.
